News/Update on Katrina

Dear Friends and Family,

We’ve spoken to some of you over the past few weeks, but some earlier in the process than others, and some are hearing this news for the first time. So we apologize for the mass email, but in the interest of delivering information more efficiently, here’s the short story.

Katrina was diagnosed with breast cancer a little over 3 weeks ago. She’s only 36, and does not have a history in her family, so needless to say, this came as a shock. Yes, we think it was caught early, and most importantly, we have every reason to believe she will be ok in the long run. It’s just a question of how long it will take and which treatments she will have to go through to get her there.

The last few weeks have been a whirlwind of doctors' appointments, tests, follow-ups, and putting together a fantastic team. Katrina's genetic markers came back negative. The cancer was found to be only in her right breast, but multi-focal on that side. So the first step is a right-side mastectomy and reconstruction, scheduled for this Friday, February 22. Radiation and/or chemo will depend on the findings from the surgery. Hormone therapy will be required for several years regardless.

We know that cancer has touched so many of your lives in one way or another. We feel incredibly grateful for the support and love that is pouring in from our amazing community, as well as all of the other advantages we have in dealing with this. Katrina’s parents live just a few minutes away and are an incredible support to us. Ezra is coming up on his 2nd birthday in about a month, and keeps us smiling, laughing, and very busy.

We so deeply appreciate all of your offers to help, and will be letting you know as things arise. For now:

FOR FLOWERS OR CARDS: 2233 Glyndon Avenue Venice, CA 90291

Meanwhile, please keep the good vibes coming to Katrina for a smooth, successful surgery on Friday, and a speedy recovery.

Love to all, Katrina, Dan & Ezra
